Default Re: 25-Shaman MB discussion

I've read that Shamans can tank, but that it takes more to maintain (gear, talents, spells). Paladins seem to do it better and with slightly less maintenance.

Two Protection Paladins and eight Elemental Shamans does sound like a good setup, to me at least. For bosses, the two tanks distract the target and build up loads of threat, whilst the eight DPSers spam the crap out of their best available spells. I'm aware now of the necessity of tanks in boss fights now.

Now if I could truly afford to maintain 25 accounts then I would just go for 25 Elem Shammies and burn through anything and everything in the game. Ten Elem Shammies could, but I've been told here that they would be wiped by some/most bosses, regardless of how much DPS they can get out.

Just quickly: I have a mate who seems quite skilled at using a Paladin. If I could get him in on this, he could control 5x Paladins whilst I control 5x Shamans. In such a scenario, I would see the bosses being distracted 99.99% of the time by the Paladin five, whilst the Shaman five spam spell-after-spell.

If I could get my mate to agree to this, would such a thing (5x Shammy + 5x Pally) be feasible?

As long as you have the tank and healer roles fulfilled, managing the DPS really comes down to you and how you plan thinks out. In other words, yes its doable, as seen by that one other dude who has 10boxed all of ICC I believe

5+5 will work.

I'd think you'd have the most success, each running a successful five-man composition. So both of you have 1x Tanking class (who you drive with), and four other toons who are either 1x Healing spec'd Healer and 3x DPS or 4x DPS with at least three of the four able to heal because they're hybrids.

Try to balance raid buffs and mob debuffs across your teams. Try to include an assortment of crowd control effects. Ideally, an equal spread of who can use what loot.

Five of the same will work, but not nearly as well as two sets of balanced 5-box teams. The challenge in boxed raids is more managing heals then anything else. Movement can be a bit of an issue, but everyone seems to have abilities where they can cast on the move or transfer diseases/combo points to a new target.

Looks like I may not be able to get my mate to join in. Money concerns he said. Fair enough though.

Been trying to get rough estimates on the DPS potential of ten Elemental Shamans. Nothing so far!

What sort of budget do you have for the PC side of things?

Right now, all I have is a laptop (Asus N61Jv model).

EDIT: Budget wise, I can amass at least 1K AUD within a few days. Maybe more if some junk I've got to sell on Ebay goes.

Ahh, the way you started the thread sounded like you had a big budget.
