Question Picking a realm...

I am starting a new Tank/Healer duo... Druid/Druid. That will be on a PvE server, and no I will not be playing on a PvP server with this group. PvP has its place as far as I am concerned and that is on the BG or Arena.

I will be starting without any funds what so ever and do not know how to play the AH very well yet. I just have not put much time or effort into it because I have not really ever hurt for money and did not care if I accumulate much of it.

Well all that is changing now. I will have nothing to start with. That being said I was looking at warcraftrealms.com today and it tells you tons of useful info I am sure if you know what you are looking at and for.

OK, all that being said... If you were going to pick a new server to start on and needed to raise all your own funds would you look for a server with a high population of your chosen side or a low population?

Most likely I will be mining, skinning, and herbing my way up the ladder to 80 for money besides what i get in in the instances. I do not believe I will be doing many quests but you never know. I will prolly just harvest when in queue for the instances or need a break from the stress.

Any advise you all can give would be awesome.

I feel I need to clarify this actually... I am only really looking for info on how to pick a realm based off harvesting and the AH and how to make the most funds as I level based on harvesting.

Well here is something to consider.

My 4x Pally 1x DK team on Kelthezud is currently level 64 with 4800 in gold, 5x epic ground mounts, 5x normal flying mounts, a guild bank with 3 tabs, and approx 600 greens to be auctioned. All of this came from normal instance running an the items sell on the AH for EXTREMES amount of gold.

What method are you using for pricing teh greens, since you're new to the server and it's AH history?

Also, Would you select the realm based on the age and population? Do you want it to be old or new... high or low... these are the questions I need help with.

It is great that you were able to do that Tim... but how did you choose the realm?

i still haven’t answered this either after around 3 months of boxing (and after a long 1+ year break). i think i spent more or less $500 for server/faction transfers as well and i again started a few teams last night on Blackrock.

i tried a server where an old guildie boxes until he quit, i tried a pve and a pvp server where i know some old wow friends, i tried an RP server, i tried some of the “new players” server for that fresh server feeling, i tried some of my original servers (for some nostalgia and at least i can relate to the history), i tried a server with the lowest ping (nearest datacenter), i tried oceanic to see if there’s a difference (culture wise) and i even tried our neighbor’s server (they still ask me to roll there but i can’t get an alliance team above 20).

the “new players” server are nice while leveling but when i got to northrend it’s pretty much dead. playing in one of my original servers (during wow release) brought back fond memories (tarren mill is not the same tarren mill from other servers, it’s weird), i felt at home (even though old friends are gone).

now i see Blackrock as a long term investment, i’m only concerned about surviving the economy since i am starting with nothing and everybody knows Blackrock. i’m after the boxing community though and you have unlimited access to PwnBoxer and Tim’s unlimited wow cd keys if you are under his guild (j/k). if this plan fails there is no other choice for me but to reroll on a fresh server come cataclysm with no RAF.

I'm not actualy sure what I should be looking for when picking a server. I don't think I will ever play multiple servers either, so it seems poinless to create teams on different servers.
I only have one friend left playing WOW now. I guess I'll play alongside..

Meh I just boxed on my main server. Outside of PvE/PvP/RP it doesn't matter except you should probably pick a higher pop server for more active AH and probably one with a better ping just cause
