Dungeon Finder (cont'd)

Posted 12-20-2009 at 08:48 PM by Poyzon

Note: I don't actually play on a Mac. I just like the image to show my disgust at my PC rebooting itself.

So the fun with the Dungeon Finder continues. My priest hit 64 today. Here's the breakdown of dungeons (and loot from satchels since my last entry - satchels suck).

Dungeon Finder

Posted 12-19-2009 at 08:25 AM by Poyzon
Updated 12-19-2009 at 08:27 AM by Poyzon (Added graphic)

So this morning I decided to finally get started on using the Dungeon Finder. A few reasons:
  1. Level up my priest. She started at 61 and is now almost 63.
  2. Get some upgrades from bosses via drops and the bags you get for using the Dungeon Finder.
  3. Get experience healing groups on my healer.

So I used the Dungeon Finder 5 times today. I had wait times of instant to 5 minutes as a healer. I actually...

Alterac Valley

Posted 12-18-2009 at 12:28 PM by Poyzon

So I took my level 60, holy spec'd, priest (94% to level 61) to Alterac Valley last night. I queued up and waiting probably 30-45 minutes before one started.

Breakdown: 6 killing blows, 6 deaths, 206 honorable kills, (I don't remember how much honor), top healer.

For the most part, I pulled a lemming and just followed the pack, throwing heals using Healbot (and a really annoying as hell...

After the RAF...

Posted 12-17-2009 at 02:48 PM by Poyzon

So, a fair amount has happened in the last month since my RAF expired.

I've been focused on team Sandwich (5 paladins - 1x prot, 4x ret). Currently, they are level 70 and I've been training my skinning to farm some leatherworking materials for sale on the AH. Before that, they basically did 60-68 in Outlands questing with about 4-6 runs through some instances. At 68, I took them to Northrend and they've been running around a little bit there (mostly just grinding).

Tonight is the last night I will have RAF. Actually, instead of spending all evening playing it out to it's fullest, I will first be using those "grant-a-level" bonuses to fill out my main account. When all is said and done, here's what I've gained out of Recruit a Friend.

Razer Naga? MMOG Laser Gaming Mouse | Buy Online

Ok, so I picked this up last night and played with it a bit this morning. Here are some of my quick observations.
  • The mouse feels a tiny bit undersized for my hand, but I'm sure these are designed with the "one size fits all" mentality. Don't think I've ever seen a mouse that

Feeling the loot love

Posted 11-06-2009 at 11:16 AM by Poyzon

I'm still running my girls (2xShaman, 2xWarlock) through SM. The latest rotation has been running through SM:Graveyard and then hopping over to SM:Library and then to SM:Cathedral. (Don't ask me why I skip Armory. I just do.) What I might do is time each run and record the xp/minute that I get for each given my playstyle. Then just keep running that wing over and over again.

As much as I'm focused on leveling this team to 60 through boosting (I feel I can get them up to around 40...

Ret Pally Booster

I reworked all my ret pally's macros last night. Now I have a single macro (called it 'iWin') that makes use of /click to call 4 different ones.

For those interested, here's the raw macro definition from my macro-cache.txt file.

Code:
MACRO 3 "iWin" INV_Misc_QuestionMark

Self Boosting

Posted 11-03-2009 at 08:33 AM by Poyzon
Tags boost, leveling, raf

10 days left in the RAF bonus. Real life is getting in the way (a good thing), so my play time has been somewhat limited. However, I've been trying to self boost one final team through instances.

Well, last night, I figured out I was doing it all wrong (and my team was already level 20). *cry*

My RAF setup: Account 2/3/4/5 are all linked to Account 1. I have level 60 paladins and druids on all accounts.

Account 1 (level 60) + Account 2/3/4/5 (level 20)...

Boosting in RFC/SFK

Posted 11-02-2009 at 07:51 AM by Poyzon

RAF ends on the 13th (only 11 more days!). As I mentioned in my last entry, I created a new 4-man team (2x Shaman + 2x Warlock) with the intent of boosting them through instances as much as possible with my level 60 prot pally. I leveled them off quests to 8 and then took them into RFC. This worked well, though I was expecting more XP/mob. However, the lack of XP/mob is more than made up for by the fact that I can kill a ton of them all at once, so the XP adds up quickly.

Once the...

Druids hit 60!!!

Posted 10-30-2009 at 06:12 AM by Poyzon
Tags ding, druid, sixty

Well, this morning, the druids hit 60. I was going to hit 60 last night (I was sitting at 97% done with 59 when I logged), but I was just too tired.

For some reason, going from 57-58 seemed to take forever. I had intended to hit 58 and then switch over to Outlands and finish off the remaining 2 levels. Well, after hitting 58, I still have a few quests left to turn in (I was in Winterspring at the time), so I figured I'd finish those off. Before I knew it, I was 59 in < 30 minutes...

Creeping up on 60...

Posted 10-26-2009 at 10:45 AM by Poyzon

The druid team hit the border of 52/53 this morning. My main hit 53, while everyone else is on the edge of 52/53. I'm still on a 4 levels/day pace since the last time I blogged, though I really don't think we're going to be able to level another group fast enough before we hit the RAF expiration.

Hinterlands provided a BIG boost last night and I still have a handful of quests to do there. In particular, I picked up all the quests I could. When I went to turn them in (about 8-10 of...

Why is it every time I run across someone new out in the wilderness, they stop and "LOL" my team? This has happened no less than a half dozen times already. I mean, you could stop and say "Hello, nice team you got there." Why "LOL"? Do I have something on my shirt? Is there gnome stuck on the bottom of my shoe?

Working on the druids...

Posted 10-20-2009 at 08:25 AM by Poyzon

After a long weekend without WoW (was in DC, with Internet access, but no WoW), I played a little yesterday and got the druids up to level 37.

Remapped my small thumb button on the mouse (would normally act as a 'forward' button in a web browser) to have my slaves cast rejuvenation on my main.

Remapped my wheel button on the mouse to have my slaves cast regrowth on my main.

Remapping the mouse buttons was a little experiment to see how this would go....

I hate RMA's (shouldn't have shipped something DOA to me in the first place!)

Got the stream up and running last night, but I'm not happy with the quality so far (everything is a bit too washed out). If anyone can share their FME 3.0 config, please send me a message. My fear is I'm ISP-bound and I really don't want to upgrade my connection.

I'm about ready to break my "100% quests - no instances" rule with the druids. The quest route I have seems to be jumping...

Druid Macros

Leveling the Druids

Posted 10-05-2009 at 08:18 AM by Poyzon
Tags 5-boxing, druid

  • My druids (RabidBear, RabidCheetah, RabidGrizzly, RabidHawk, RabidRaven) are all now 21.
  • Played time is about 7 hours now.
  • Due to my hardware issues and network crapping out at the wrong time, leveling these guys was pretty difficult this weekend.
  • I'm having a hard time finding a groove with this team. I'm probably too use to having all melees from the pally team.
  • Tank + 4 casters should be easier, but I just can't get a good grip on how I should be playing my tank (feral, bear).

Hardware woes (update)

Ok, so I finally nuked my drives and installed Windows 7.

Bad
  • Random reboots are still happening.
  • To add more frustration to the reboot issue, Windows 7 has this wonderful "Windows System Repair" feature that pops up when you crash and reload. The default is to attempt a repair (with another option to start Windows normally). The 'repair' option gives you the option to cancel but gives you the message "You cannot cancel this operation". Seems pretty f'd up

Hardware woes

My random reboots are back (and getting frequent). This is extremely frustrating.

System Specs

At this point, I'm convinced its either the motherboard (ASUS has a new BIOS coming out today) or my RAM. I'm hoping the BIOS update fixes things since it purportedly adds more memory support.

On a related note, I picked up another hard drive yesterday, bringing me up to 3 physical drives.

My current plan is to backup my system one last time,...

Finishing off Paladins / Starting a new group

  • Once I hit 60, I'll be creating a new team. No name(s) yet. I find this the hardest part of creating new characters. Being prepare with a bunch of names helps.

Team Sandwich
  • Good news: SandwichA ding'd 60 this morning!
  • Not-so-good news: The rest of the team is still 58.
  • Did a lot of questing this weekend.
  • Felwood + Winterspring = lots of quests (and with many giving around 25k xp, leveling was f-a-s-t).
  • I'll finish these guys off to 60 (to maximize the grant-a-level reward) then switch to another team.

Next Steps
  • Now that the paladin team is (almost) 60, it's time to start a new team (since RAF is still going strong).

    2. Click on Sep 23rd 2009
    3. Fast forward to 9:26 (Right before we get into the instance - you'll skip the 1/2 hour it took us to get there, including the Alliance scum that killed us.)

Questing
  • I've gone back to doing some questing instead of instances. I've kind of been missing the joys of doing quests and following some of the other mini-story lines. Currently, I'm going through Hinterlands (great cluster of quests there).
  • XP from questing has been pretty good. In 30 minutes in the Hinterlands, I gained an entire level (48-49). Most quests were turning in for 18,900 xp.

PvP and Bugged Quests
  • Went and played with the pirates in Tanaris. Good XP for pirates, great for quests. (FYI: Quest turn ins are usually 10k+ right now.
  • Teamed with a DK and traded deaths with an Alliance druid (80) and priest (44). I think the priest got tired, but the druid was a lot of fun, even if I wasn't very effective. Had to log in the evening or I would have had more fun.

Of macros and movement...

Posted 09-08-2009 at 11:35 AM by Poyzon

Someone recently asked me how the 5-pally team was going. It's going fine, but not great. Now I figure this is due to a few things.
  1. I'm probably lazy.
  2. Multiboxing 5 melees probably isn't easy (particularly when this is only the 2nd team I've boxed).
  3. Not taking the time to set up your macros/controls adds a whole lot of drag to your gameplay.
#1's mostly true, #2 might be true, but #3 is dead on true.

Now, I have a limited amount of time each day in which I might play. I've...
